What happened in the 40 days after the death, burial and resurrection?

We are so used to hearing all about the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ and how it redeems mankind, but it is what happened over the course of the next 40 days that transformed a group of scared and disillusioned followers into world changers.

So what happened next?

If you have a problem believing that Jesus physically raised from the dead, then you might find what happened next hard to swallow.  You see for 40 days after the resurrection Jesus walked around very much alive and spent time with over 500 disciples, teaching them and getting them ready to receive the Holy Spirit.

Why is Jesus walking around for 40 days important?

It is the evidence of the resurrection.  You see the absent body of Jesus is not enough.  If we don’t know what happened to Jesus’ body then anything could have happened to it.  It could have been removed by the government, it could have been removed by his followers or a variety of other possibilities.  However, if He truly raised from the dead then He would have been walking around very much alive.  It matters because if Jesus did not raise from the grave and live then every other claim of Christ is invalidated, but His resurrection is validated by the actions of those who witnessed it.  This is evidenced in the fact that each of His main disciples were willingly beaten, imprisoned and killed professing the risen Jesus.
