Beyond all of the issues, beyond the politics, what does the Bible teach us about sexuality?
We see such pressure in our culture to define or even redefine sexuality and even gender. This is true no matter which side of this cultural divide you tend to land on. Unfortunately, it has caused people to struggle to communicate their beliefs about sexuality and so it is very difficult to simply talk about this very important issue without it stirring up anger or intolerance. Yet that is what we are setting out to do, not for the sake of proving anyone wrong and not for the sake of getting political about any of it, but to discover what the Bible calls us to do. The fact is that as Christians we have chosen to surrender to and follow Christ. What that means is that we no longer get to determine what we want, but we look to Jesus and the Bible to instruct and lead us. Which means that when it comes to our sexuality we don’t get to say, “This is what I want to do,” we ask instead, “how does Jesus want us to use this powerful gift of sex?” And the truth is that God calls all of His followers to a Holy sexuality.
In This Sermon
We spend a good portion of this message talking about the creation of gender, the intent of marriage, and how sex was designed by God to fit within a specific context. We then look at how many of the laws in scripture define our deviance from that standard and call us back to God’s intent. We briefly look at the LGBTQ community and discuss what the Bible instructs concerning homosexual sex and transgenderism. Its an honest look at these issues.
