Was it necessary for Jesus to die on the cross?
As we continue in our journey taking a look at the cross it should be no surprise to anyone who knows anything about Jesus that everything in Jesus’ life and ministry was in fact leading to the crucifixion of Jesus. You see Jesus did not come just to be with us, even though He did in fact come. Jesus did not come just to teach us how to live for God even though He revealed that to us. Jesus did not come for any other reason than to deal with our sin and that would eventually lead Him to the place of offering Himself up as a sacrifice on our behalf. This was the plan from the beginning and even the sacrificial system found in the Old Testament where sins were transferred from the person onto a sacrificial lamb was both a temporary way to deal with our sins, but it was a foreshadowing of what Jesus would eventually come and do for us in a permanent way.
In this Sermon
We are going to look at why the crucifixion was necessary and why everything that Jesus did was funneled through the cross.
