Have you been born again?

There was a time, not that long ago, when Christians referred to themselves as born again believers.  This term referred to Jesus’ teaching in John, chapter 3, when He said that in order to see the Kingdom of God, you must be born again.  Back then, it meant that you were a serious Christian.  It meant that you believed in the Bible and you lived by its teaching.  It meant that you went to church and were serious about things like Bible study and prayer.  It meant that you gave up the old sinful ways of the past and that you did things differently now that you were a Christian.  It was a way of saying that you were living life for Jesus and you were marked by that difference.  Somewhere along the line we stopped using that terminology.  Perhaps it came and went like other trends.  Perhaps it fell out of favor as it took on negative connotations.  Maybe we just simply started associating our faith less with the transformative work of Christ and more with our need for grace.  Whatever the reason, I think we need to take a look at this important phrase that Jesus spoke and we need to understand what it means to be born again, and maybe, just maybe you might even describe yourself as a born again believer.

In this Sermon

We are going to look at the first of three marks of what being born again looks like, starting with our justification.  Well answer questions like…what does it look like to be forgiven of our sins and how are we forgiven of our sins?
