Who is the Holy Spirit?

God has given the church a great gift, the Holy Spirit, and yet to many of us the Holy Spirit is a mystery.  While Christians know that He exists and acknowledge that He is a part of the Trinity, we just don’t know what to do with Him.  The answer is that we are invited by Jesus and the scripture to get to know Him.  Much in the same way that we have a personal relationship with Jesus, we should have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit.

What does that mean?

It means that we are to interact with the Holy Spirit.  We can talk to Him and He can talk to us.  And why wouldn’t we?  When Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit, He said that He would be a helper.  Now tell me, do you need help when it comes to your faith.  The whole purpose and ministry of the Holy Spirit is to help and strengthen the Christian.  In fact the Holy Spirit has always worked with mankind since the beginning and continues to do so even now.  The question we need to ask is how well do we know Him?

How does the Holy Spirit help?

I’m sure you could fill a book with ways that the Holy Spirit helps us, but there are five things that the Holy Spirit helps the Christian with that we believe are essential to the growth and health of every Christian.

  • The Holy Spirit helps you in your weakness
  • The Holy Spirit equips you
  • The Holy Spirit convicts you of sin
  • The Holy Spirit turns persecution and trial into blessing
  • The Holy Spirit teaches us the deeper things of God
