What can we learn from the Shepherd’s and the Angel’s Story?

Something that we often forget when we read the story of Jesus’ birth in the Bible is that it is more than just the story of Christmas. In fact these were real situations experienced by real people which makes the accounts that we read even more incredible and precious. It is my heart that we don’t simply gloss over the situations faced by people like Joseph and Mary, but that we look at how those situations impacted their lives and the faith-filled decisions that they made as they navigated through them. Why? Because we know how the story goes and we know that everything works out for God’s glory in the end, so it is easy to romanticize the people and what we read about them. However, we can never forget that these situations unravelled over the course of months and even years and that in-between the sentences and paragraphs were real people living real lives. So in this series we are going to take a look at some of the key characters and understand what they faced and how they faced it so that we might get an even greater understanding and appreciation for that first Christmas.

In this Sermon

We are going to take a look at why the Angels chose these shepherds to reveal the birth of Christ to.  Was there more going on here than angels talking with some poor shepherds?  Were these ordinary shepherds and how did they know where to go to find the baby Jesus?  The answers might just surprise you and add greater significance to the brief mention of these shepherds in the Bible.
