You cannot become like Christ without renewing the mind
We’ve been talking about Jesus’ invitation to forsake the world and follow Him. It is an invitation that we as Christians leap at but often struggle with. For many of us we have learned patterns and behaviors and just because we decide to follow Jesus it doesn’t mean that all of those patterns and behaviors just simply vanish. Truth be told they have to be discovered and dealt with over time. However, it has become more common in church that instead of looking to be transformed and to leave the world behind that we instead embrace our worldly patterns and behaviors and just live in grace. Grace is a great thing but Jesus didn’t intend for us to just live in grace but to be transformed by it. To appreciate the grace we have been afforded and to grow beyond our sins. The truth is that we cannot grow beyond our sins if our thinking and desires remain the same. Paul compels us to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. We need renewed minds if we are ever to mature into Christlikeness.
In this sermon
We are going to take a look at what renewing the mind means and its vital role in our spiritual maturity and growth.
