How do we deal with the Fear of God and Grace?

It’s a bit of a mystery.  On one hand the Bible talks about the fear of God and on the other hand we learn about God’s grace.  God’s grace gives us freedom from God’s wrath and judgment, so the natural question is why should we fear God?  Especially when we understand that God loves us and we receive forgiveness and grace through Jesus Christ.  So it almost seems like fearing God would not really fit into a world where grace is prevalent.

Fear for most of us, is not a good thing.  To be afraid of something or someone generally is because we have been hurt or abused by them and so we are afraid of what they might do.  Is fearing God the same thing?  What does the Bible teach us about the fearing God and how do we balance that out with the grace that we have received.

In this Sermon

We are going to define what the fear of God is and what it is not.  We’ll also take a look at how the fear of God and grace palace each other out and actually create a healthy environment for the Disciple of Christ.
