Was the cross the end of Jesus’ work or just the beginning?
The cross truly was the beginning for what Jesus came to do. In fact, without the resurrection Christ’s crucifixion is simply the end. When we think about the cross and crucifixion of Christ what we need to keep in mind is that it was the climax of Christ’s ministry which unfolded in five spectacular moments. First, the crucifixion. Second, the grave. Third, the resurrection. Fourth, the ascension. Fifth, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Here is the thing, all of these things are essential to what we believe about Jesus and they all must be present in order to complete our understanding of what Jesus did for humanity. Remove any one of these five things and suddenly you have an incomplete gospel. Yet I would contend that we focus most of our understanding on the cross and forget that there was so much more tied into what happened when Jesus was crucified and that the cross although it is perhaps the most visible moment was simply just the beginning of Jesus putting all things back into order for humanities sake. What unfolded in the course of the next 50 days are all a part of the good news and redemption of mankind.
In This Sermon
Today we are going to look at the importance of what happened when Jesus was in the grave and the power of His resurrection.
