Why did the Magi visit Jesus?

At first this seems like a simple question and perhaps one not worth asking. We all know that they visited Jesus because of the star that led them there, but even if they saw this star and even if they recognized that it meant something significant, why go on such a long and difficult journey to find the child who this star represented? While we take travel for granted for them to have gone on this journey it would have been a huge undertaking and one that would have come with a lot of peril. This was something that would have required a ton of planning and would have needed them to pull together enough provisions to get there and back. Although it doesn’t say specifically in the Bible their journey to get to Jesus could have taken a couple of years which meant that this visit could have taken up almost four years of their life. So why visit Jesus? Well, let’s just say that there was something more about the star and the signs then just the simple fact that a king was born.

In this Sermon

We are going to look at why the Magi would go on such a difficult journey to see Jesus and how they handled their visit in light of Herod’s anger.
