Why does God send angels to the shepherds?
It’s something that puzzled me for quite some time. I mean why would God need to make such a big announcement to such seemingly insignificant people? Surely there were people in the city who were more important or who might even have welcomed such an announcement. Surely there were great men, priests, scribes, Pharisees, etc… who were in a much better position to receive the news and share it. So why these shepherds? Of course, some have drawn the conclusion that God sharing such great news with these lowly shepherds is a great example of His love for all of us, but what if there is more to this story? What if these are not just any ordinary shepherds? What if there is something happening in this moment that ties together all of Jewish history, the forefathers and the prophets? What if this moment was bigger than just God sharing good news with shepherds?
In This Sermon
We are going to look at why this declaration about Jesus’ birth was so much more than what it seems on the surface, something amazing was happening.
