What is the church supposed to be doing?
This is a vital question that the church needs to ask itself now and always. It is so easy for churches to get focused on a variety of things. Things that honestly seem important but in the end really shouldn’t be the focus. For years I have preached that we don’t exist to chase after the ABC’s of church. What are the ABC’s? Attendance, buildings, and cashflow. On some level they do matter. A church simply cannot exist if you don’t have these things, but they are not to be confused with the mission of the church. The mission of the church is advancing the gospel and ministering to the lost. This is not just the mission of the church, but it is the heart of what every disciple is called to do. Each one of us who have been redeemed, have been redeemed for a purpose and just like it says in the book of Esther, we have been created for such a time as this. In other words, each one of us with our unique experiences, our gifts, our passions, our positions and friends are the perfect fit to get the good news to an area where only we have the right connections. We become a unique solution in sharing the word of God. Now is the time for each Christian to recognize the greater mission of the church and reproduce their faith in others.
In this Sermon
We answer the question, “What is the church supposed to be doing?” Of course there is what the church is supposed to be doing and there is what the church is actually doing. This sermon is a call to action, for each one of us to recognize that now is the time to jump into action.
